Belly Dance Holidays

Belly Dance in Morocco in October 2009 was a huge success.

Email us for information on our next Belly Dance Adventure

Escape the British monsoon season and join Mia for a belly dance adventure in Morocco

Looking outside my office window at the pouring with rain this week (not the usual British drizzle but a full on tropical storm) I have been thinking what we all need is a holiday.

So, I have taken the liberty of planning us a fantastic Moroccan belly dance adventure (hope you don’t mind).

Beginning in Marrakech, we will take in the colours and scents of the Souk – perusing an array of goods including leather shoes, jewellery, spices and belly dance accessories - with our Moroccan guide.

At dinner, in an authentic Moroccan restaurant, we will sample the delights and flavours of North Africa, then back to our riad hotel, set around a courtyard, to dream.

The next day we begin the journey south, to Taroudant. This region of Morocco has the same weather as the Canary Islands, the average temperature in October is 25 degrees C. We will cross the Atlas mountains In Land Rovers, stopping for lunch in a Berber village. In the afternoon we will arrive at our destination: a former berber palace, converted into a hotel, with a swimming pool, gardens, and palatial bedrooms where we will stay for 3 days.

In the mornings Mia will teach a 1.5 hour stretch, strength and meditation class, based on Pilates, Yoga and Sufi. We will work on muscle toning and core strength while stretching out the accumulated tension in our bodies and breathing it out with meditative techniques.

(Mia is a certified pilates instructor and has been studying and teaching Sufi practices for 10 years).

In the afternoon you can take the opportunity to relax by the pool or explore the local village. There are also optional excursions, including a Moroccan cooking lesson with local women, a talk on Moroccan carpets and a trip to the souk (market) in the town of Taroudant.

The evening is when we dance. Mia will be running a 1.5 hour mixed level class suitable for beginners and more advanced students. This is an opportunity to work in a more intimate group in an inspiring setting, with plenty of personal attention. Mia will also be offering a limited number of private lessons during the afternoons.

On Friday we make our way back to Marrakech, and celebrate our return with an optional trip to a luxury hammam (Turkish bath) for a seaweed wrap and a lavish or quiet dinner in town, you decide. It’s also a chance for you to return to the souk and pick up some souvenirs.

On Saturday we return to London with an enviable tan, relaxed and toned body and a big smile on our faces!

Although aimed at women, boyfriends and partners, non-dancing friends and relatives are welcome to join the trip. (NB Non-dancers may join the morning stretch-strength class).

All levels of belly dance experience catered for.
